Maine Veterans' Dental Network
The Maine Veterans' Dental Network (MVDN) is overseen by the Maine Bureau of Veterans' Services. This is program is grant funded by Northeast Delta Dental for veterans who are not 100% service-connected disabled with the VA, do not have any form of dental insurance, and cannot afford to pay for their dental care out of pocket. As of 2026, veterans who qualify for the program are eligible for up to a $3,000 grant based on the dentist's treatment plan. Currently there are 23 approved dental clinics participating in the MVDN (non-profit clinics, Federally Qualified Health Centers, and the state's two dental teaching schools.
Swan’s Island First Aid (SIFA)
SIFA is a free, non-emergency, walk-in first aid station available to all island residents and visitors and staffed by volunteer licensed medical professionals starting with a pilot project during July and August 2026.
Healthy Smiles for ME
Portable Dental Hygienists providing preventive care in schools. 57 % children and teens have active tooth decay, accessing care is very difficult. Healthy Smiles is dedicated to educating students on the importance of good oral hygiene and diet to stop the devastating effects of dental disease. Prevention through education; individual plaque control techniques, diet, decrease sugar beverages and high carb snacks.
